Tasting Notes

The 2021 Willie Mae opens with aromas of confectionery raspberries and cream, cola, and delicate violet candy. On the palate, the wine is mouthwatering, with accents of hibiscus tea, cherry cola, and blackberry. The wine is medium-bodied with balanced French oak and bold acidity, reminiscent of raspberry sorbet with hints of black pepper on the finish. This wine truly showcases the elegance of clonal expression from the Dijon clone 115.

As part of the original Spanish Land Grant, Rancho Santa Rosa is one of Santa Barbara’s most historic properties. This beautiful south-facing hillside climbs from 500 to 1,000 feet above sea level. This wine features clones 115, 667, and 459. Following harvest, the fruit was cold soaked for four days and then fermented in stainless steel tanks with regular punch downs to extract maximum color and flavor. It was aged in French and American oak barrels (30% new) for 16 months before bottling.
